Oral history interview with Sam Jones, 1964 Aug. 28.

Interview conducted by Larry Ritter for use in his book "The Glory of their times : the story of the early days of baseball told by the men who played it". Sam Jones discusses the origin of his nichname Sad Sam Jones as well as comments on the 1916 Boston Pitching Staff including Babe Ruth. Additionally he comments about the longevity of his 22 year pitching career, and makes comparisons between Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Joe Jackson. Followed are comments about Stuffy McInnis and his ability as a first baseman. He also provides insights into the lives of Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb, on and off of the field, as well as comments about playing for manager Walter Johnson in Boston.
